Activity 2: North and South [4 points]

The country of New Zealand is made up of two main islands – the North Island and the South Island. Approximately 77% of the New Zealand population live in the North Island. Many of these people (including our Summer Learning Journey design team) live in Auckland city. Auckland is a great place to live with lots of amazing parks, beautiful waterways and stunning scenery to enjoy. It is also a busy, vibrant city with many cafes, museums, galleries and theaters to visit. I feel lucky to call Auckland my ‘hometown.’

Now it is time to think about your hometown. What is special about where you live? On your blog, describe your hometown. Be sure to include lots of describing words (adjectives) in your post.

My home is in panmure and i love it there because we can just walk

i like it there because i meet new friends and when i those friends they were so kind to me. when i am hungry i can walk to the dairy and plus i live right next to

a school were my friends go to but i go to a different school tho and that's why i love my home town

Activity 3: Ice, Ice Baby [10 points]

Antarctica is the world’s coldest continent. Even though it is made up of ice, it is also the driest continent in the world. In fact, it hasn’t rained there for nearly 2 million years! It is home to many animals such as whales, seals, birds, and fish. There are no permanent human residents (people who live there all the time) in Antarctica, however scientists do visit and stay in Antarctica for a while to study it.

This year the airline, Air New Zealand, filmed their safety video in Antarctica. They used some fabulous actors from Hornby Primary School in Christchurch. Just like on aeroplanes, we also need to keep safe and be smart online. We need to think about the type of information we are sharing online, who we are sharing information with, and how to have a positive digital footprint.

Week 1 A Place To Stand 1

DAY 1: In the Beginning... Activity 1: The Legend of New Zealand [4 points] According to Māori mythology, much of Aotearoa New Zealand was formed when Māui, a powerful demigod, fished it out of the sea. Legend has it that Māui created a magical fish hook from the jawbone of his grandmother and that one day he took his hook, boarded a boat, and rode out into the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Once at sea, he threw his magical hook into the water and caught a fish. This ‘fish’ was actually the North Island of New Zealand! In honour of this legend, the North Island of New Zealand is sometimes referred to as Te Ika a Māui or ‘Māui’s fish’ and the South Island of New Zealand is sometimes referred to as Te Waka a Māui or ‘Māui’s canoe’. The Auckland City Sky Tower is the tallest  freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere at 328 meters high. . To become a New Zealand citizen,  you must swear an oath of loyalty to Queen Elizabeth.

Zumba in class

Today after our learning some of the room 10 students did Zumba. There were three songs that we had dancing 1. Better when i'm dancing 2. Ants are marching down in the ground in the rain 3. was whip nae nae.

Digital Immersion

Garry from Digital Immersion. We learnt to programmed a robot to move from one place to the another by programming it.
It used a very special language called binary. It was hard to use it but then we got the hang of it and started working. We also looked a the words and they had colors like blue and purple. Its was called on and off . We used a app that was called mBlock is an app that you could code the robots what you ask them to do. 

In fact robots are actually dumb but they are not dumb if we tell them what to do. Like an example if i told you to move 2 spaces and your  next to the eage you will say "nah" or "why should I" but if you code and to move 2 spaces i will do it and fall down. My  group had heaps of fun but in the begging it was very   challenging, and wish to go and have another session with him again

This morning room 10 and i went to kiwi can after gymnastics in the hall. When we went to kiwi can we had a topic and a theme the topic was Problem solving and theme was resilience. When we finished talking about it we went to our Game. The game was called human knot when we were playing the teacher told us how to play we spited into two groups but it was boys vs girls. It was difficult but we mannered to untie our selves.

How to play

1. Split into two groups you could do boys vs girsl
2. lift you right hand up and hold that person hands that is across of you (Not next to you)
3. Then you try to untangle your hands like a circle.

What makes things glow?

Materials:

Highlighter

½ cup of water in a clear cup

Purple & blue cellophane

Scissors

Torch

Tape

Blue and purple sharpie

Method:

1. Dissolve highlighter ink in ½ cup of water and leave to absorb
2. Cover the torch with purple cellophane then blue (first form of light)
3. Cover torch with tape and colour with blue sharpie, tape again then blue again,
4. 
   
   1. tape then colour using purple sharpie (2nd form of light)
   2. Go to dark room and shine the light on the cup of coloured water
